YOUR HOME’S WINDOWS SAY A LOT ABOUT YOU…

Ah, the world of perception to which we belong. Isn’t it funny how many judgments—good and bad—people make about the other people around them, often times without being conscious of doing so? I remember my mom telling me, “you don’t have to like it, but how you present yourself through dress and hygiene will say a lot about you to people before they know you.”

Sigh. She’s right. So, we all plug along and wake up early enough to dress properly for public and brush through our hair… maybe slap on a bit of mascara or gloss.

This rule is true for your home, too. Did you know that? Yes, of course—we all clean up and shove our belongings in closets and run the vacuum before guests arrive (it’s not just me, right?). But, the outside presents and represents you, as well.

Imagine my mother (or, imagine yours if you want to) coming over to my home here in Gilroy, CA. Before she arrives, I am frantically shoving clothes in closets and dropping toys scattered everywhere (mother of four, here) into bins and assigning my Roomba to one side of the house while I manually vacuum the other. She arrives, we greet, she looks around and tells me the following: “your windows look like an old lady lives here. No one would know you are vibrant and youthful by looking at this house.”

Lovely. She’s German. She can’t help but criticize. It’s the way she shows love.

The irritating this was, she was absolutely right. Here I am, living in this house I’ve spent years customizing and decorating. It’s contemporary and youthful and chic and I’m proud of it. But, when we stepped outside and crossed our arms and surveyed the exterior, I agreed with her. The window frames were old, cumbersome, highly detailed wood with dark stain. Beautiful. Stately.

But, not me.

To my husband’s chagrin, I embarked on another home-improvement project: a whole-home window replacement endeavor. I called The Screen Shop in San Jose (everyone uses them) and set an appointment to meet at their showroom and begin plans. Here’s what I chose:

  • Casement windows to frame a large picture window in the living room
  • An oversized bay window for the office
  • An awning window in the kitchen above the new sink we just had installed last year
  • Slider windows for all the kids’ bedrooms
  • A bow window for the master, along with a sliding door to our private patio
  • Customized geometrically-shaped transom windows to flank our front door
  • Small awning windows for the garage (this made my husband happy)

We could not be happier with the entire experience with The Screen Shop. I could instantly see why so many of our coworkers recommended this company. The team there is thoughtful, non-salesy, kind, and professional. I felt excited and encouraged to dream up what I really wanted. Now, our home is the contemporary home—inside and out—that I always wanted. Give The Screen Shop a call for quality replacement windows in Gilroy, CA!
